Sonic Youth Now Part of the Permanent Record

The Library of Congress has announced the 50 records they have chosen to be in the National Recording Registry for 2006. The choices are supposed to represent the most culturally significant recordings, and the ones whose permanent placement in the Library will be imprtant for future generations to hear.

This year, Sonic Youth's landmark 1988 album Daydream Nation has been chosen for inclusion in the registry. Sonic Youth joins other significant musical forces like Beethoven, Jimi Hendrix, and Jerry Lee Lewis.

I found this cool live performance of Sonic Youth doing "Silver Rocket" from Daydream Nation from a 1980s television appearance.
